Dear OLRFC & 1200 Club Member,
Before providing an update in relation to the Club I am very sorry to record the recent passing away of Keith Baxter who was a member of the Club for 50+ years. He joined along with others from English Electric RFC in 1970 playing as a typical prop forward and was crucial in being so welcoming when I joined the club a few years later. He served in many positions but most noticeably as Treasurer and Chairman in the first decade of 21st Century and was instrumental in making the Club what it is today. Our thoughts are with Maureen and the rest of the family. RIP Keith and say hello to all the other OLRFC members you have now joined.

On 22nd May we will be opening the Clubhouse for the first time since December 2020 and it will involve both a live 1200 Club Draw and the televising of the EPCR Cup Final involving La Rochelle-v-Toulouse at 4.45pm following a further inter club touch tournament at 2.00pm. This follows the very successful tournaments we had on 24th April & 1st May where mixed teams of Phoenix Ladies, Seniors and Colts played some entertaining rugby and had an enjoyable social afterwards. For the coming Saturday, the rule of 6 will apply to indoor tables whilst a Group of 30 will be able to congregate outdoors but all receiving “table service.” Ben Scott is liaising with Dave Longrigg & Chris Tew in relation to the booking system which will need to be in place for Saturday and is also working on the arrangements for the Grand Re-Opening on 26th June and details will be posted on Social Media and the Website as soon as we understand the full guidelines in place.
The dates for the Driveway repairs and the Clean-up weekends demonstrate the work we have and are doing to improve the facilities and I would ask as many of you as possible to help with the clean-up and repainting of the Clubhouse/Gym and other outstanding tasks. Ian Turton will be publishing a schedule of Works that need to be done and let’s get the Clubhouse and Facilities in the best condition we can for the new Rugby season. Thank you in anticipation of your support which is greatly appreciated.
We have entered a couple of teams in the Evesham RFC 10’s tournament on 17th July and are currently looking to arrange a coach for both players and spectators and further details follow. The Flyer is attached for information.
After the re-opening we will be delighted to welcome spectators for the various training sessions and trial games when we hope the changing rooms and showers will be fully open with the added bonus of watching the Lions Games and other sporting events in the fully open Clubhouse.
For next season we remain in Midlands 2 West(South) involving some of our favourite opponents namely Barkers Butts, Berkswell & Balsall, Earlsdon, Evesham, Kidderminster Carolians, Leamington, Nuneaton Old Edwardians, Old Coventrians, Pinley, Silhillians & Spartans. We will confirm the fixtures commencing from 4th September as soon as they are released and will be producing the usual fixture card. In the meantime other important dates for your diaries
